What are the different types of coaching?
How long does a session last and how many sessions are needed?
Can I be coached by e-mail of phone?
Are there any numbers, facts and results known about coaching?
The NOBCO (Dutch order of professional coaches) defines coaching as ‘the strategic and tactical application of psychology, management and communicative skills and techniques in order to enable an individual or group achieve self selected goals’.
In contrast to a mentor, a coach provides less advice and does not respond from his own frame of mind. A coach assists the client to find a unique and personal solution by asking the right questions. These questions help to create an insight in the actual issue.
A good coach is a certified professional, trained to find the best solution in co-operation with the client.
Using a coach does not mean something is wrong. On the contrary, it means you are willing to improve and to create an environment which is supportive for you. Every professional athlete has a coach. And life, both personal and business life, is an Olympic challenge. Therefore, coaching is for successful people, who would like to become even more successful.
What are the different types of coaching?
There are two types of coaching:
business coaching and personal (life) coaching.
Business coaching deals with issues around work and business: Personal coaching deals with issues in your private life. There is an overlap, because you typically have both a business life, as well as a private life. And the issues in them are often exchangeable.
Capedium offers both business coaching and personal coaching.

How long does a session last and how many sessions are needed?
A session lasts in average 1 1/2 hour. Sometimes, after one session, a newly created insight makes additional sessions redundant. Other times, a client likes to be coached on a regular basis, making coaching more a repeating endeavour.
How many sessions you need is always up to you.

After that, additional sessions may take place over the telephone.
With modern technology, it’s also possible to be coached by e-mail, Skype or MSN.

Are there any numbers, facts and results known about coaching?
A survey on coaching, done by TNO NIPO (published in P&O profiel - April 2004), shows
that one out of four Dutch employees is being assisted by a coach. Especially higher
educated professionals are in need of a coach. Of these, one out of three has sessions
with someone with who they can reflect on their issues. Forty percent of managing
directors and top managers is being assisted by a coach.
The same survey shows that coaches are being hired predominantly for personal development. Coaches also deal with potential areas of conflict, and assist employees who need to be advancing their careers. Of clients who have hired a coach, 64 percent states that coaching decreases absence through illness. The same number of employees say that coaching has accelerated their career.
Women hire a coach mainly for conflict handling; men hire coaches for their personal development.
In the United States, 94 percent of all coaching is being done by phone.
The conclusion of the survey was that coaching has shown to be the most effective
Human Resource Development instrument.
An American survey of 2001, mostly done within Fortune 1000 companies, has shown that the average organization had reached a 600% ROI (Return On Investment) by utilizing coaching.
The higher management of these organizations reported a profit of $100,000 for every $15,000 to $20,000 that had been invested in coaching, besides the non-measurable advantages like improved motivation, better interpersonal relationships and stronger leadership.
